Boric Acid Vaginal Suppositories

To use boric acid suppositories, begin by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. It is a good idea to wear a pantyliner or pad, since some discharge or leakage can occur as the capsule dissolves. Gently insert one suppository deep into the vagina, either with your finger or an applicator if one is provided. Many people prefer to insert the suppository at bedtime to minimize leakage. Once it is in place, wash your hands again.

The typical dosing for an acute infection is one 600 mg suppository inserted vaginally once nightly for seven to fourteen days. For recurrent infections, some protocols suggest one suppository two to three times per week as maintenance, though the exact duration and frequency should be determined by a healthcare provider.

During treatment, it is common to experience a watery discharge as the capsule dissolves. Tampons should not be used during this time, as they can absorb the medication. If you are sexually active, use protection such as condoms or dental dams, since boric acid may reduce the effectiveness of barrier methods and can sometimes cause irritation for partners. Boric acid suppositories are intended for vaginal use only and should never be swallowed, as ingestion is toxic.

This product should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding without medical guidance. It should also be avoided if you have open sores, cuts, or ulcers in the vaginal area. If you notice severe burning, cramping, fever, or worsening symptoms, stop use and contact a healthcare provider. Seek medical advice if your symptoms do not improve after a full course of treatment, if they return quickly after finishing, or if you are uncertain whether your symptoms are due to yeast, bacterial vaginosis, or another condition such as an STI.
